Computer science graduates make a lot more than English graduates.
Plumbers make a lot
more than unskilled laborers etc. School teachers with 20 years of
experience make more
than new teachers, etc.

An English graduate can switch to science, an unskilled laborer can
learn to be a plumber, and, assuming s/he can stick it out, the new
teacher will eventually become an experienced teacher.

One can't do much about their gender - with a few outre exceptions*.

There is no evidence that women doing the same work with the same number
of years of experience earn less than men.
