Did they have databases 40 years ago?
As late as 2000, I was support for a project to have an oracle database
fed from KSAM(?) files.


IBM built what is now known as IMS for NASA to support the Saturn V and
delivered it in '68/69 time frame. The commercial release for the
System/360 was around '70. It's still widely used and under development.

So, "yes", definitely, but you had to be a "big boy" to play in the
beginning. They followed to smaller systems over the years...
