I grew up in a well to do family. So do not know what being actually poor is like. That said we only owned one car until I was old enough to buy a model A Ford for $65. The car we got when I was eleven was a deluxe model. It had a heater, a radio and a clock. A lot of cars did not have these luxuries. We did not have a TV until I was in high school, but we did get a radio when I was about nine years old. We never did have air conditioning in most of the house, but did get a window unit for the living room and dining room, again when I was in high school. We did have electric fans for the bedrooms, and got a window fan for the kitchen when I was about ten. And we had central heat. Most of my friends did not have central heat. As I remember we got a clothes washer shortly before I started high school. The washer was one that washed the clothes, but you had to feed them through the ringer ond then pump out the dirty water and fill up the tub with clean water for the rinse. Never did have a dryer. My mother figured out that it was cheaper to take the clothes to a laundry mat then to buy a newer washer. We got a power lawn mover when I was about ten or twelve.

I also never was poor, because I had marketable skills. Started making
money programming computers at age of 17.

Perhaps not, however unlike most of the people who actually are
"honestly poor", we have more education and understand economics. A
higher minimum wage has *zero* effect on the number of available low end
jobs. The only thing a higher minimum wage does is trigger inflation to
rebalance the economy thus the people working those low end jobs have
exactly the same purchasing power to hours worked ratio they did before
the minimum wage was increased.
