Higher Minimum Wage equals FEWER jobs

Those of us who know something about economics and are able to read and comprehend the relevant research know the facts, which are that the claim that raising the minimum wage will cause rising unemployment is a nothing more than a long discredited rightard canard purveyed by the likes of Limbaugh and regurgitated by useful idiots for the right. Sounds good , but it is not true. The minimum wage is at about the level that would exist without a minimum wage law. And therefore the only significant effect is on the employment of young black kids. It does make it more difficult for them to get work experience and get work references so they can get a higher paying job. The unemployment rate of black teenagers is significantly above white teen agers. If the minimum wage is raised to about $20 an hour, the effects will be noticeable and it will make a lot more things worth automating. And reduce employment. Dan |
