memery shot, Book on scheduling production
I while back someone here recommended a book having to do with optimising production scheduling. The book was written as if it were a novel , but was really about how to improve production by changing some concepts about scheduling.
I got the book through the library , read it, enjoyed it. But can not remember the name of the book, the name of the author, or the name of the person that recommended it. Can anyone help me find the author or book? Or give me some hints on how to search for it. Toured a fab shop today and one of the people was mentioning that although the new machine could engrave the part no. on parts, it was really much faster to use a paint stick to put the part number on. Engraving is nice, but not so good if the machine was a production bottle neck. Otherwise the new machine is impressive. Can plasma cut place up to 2 inches, Oxyacet cut to three inches. And drill 3/4 inch dia holes in 3/4 inch place in about 3 seconds. The only thing the operator has to do is blow the chips from drilling off the work before plasma cutting. Not so good were the prints for the job we are concerned with. The parts were not drawn to scale, so it was harder to check them. And some parts were mislocated. No big deal as the parts are not scheduled to be made for a few more days, but annoying. Dan |
