Wells 747 Speed control problem.

I have a Wells 747. The variable speed control lever is now moving by itself.
No matter where I put it, it starts to creep up in speed...
like a ghost pushing the lever in both Hi/low gears.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
