The body can replace bad cells. Where it fails is when
massive damage is done. The body gets like Swiss cheese if
done on-off-on mode where the off is a period dependent on the
level of radiation and type of radiation of the on time.

e.g. alpha particles are not so bad. Won't get beyond outer skin.

X-ray can be soft or hard. (think density and intensity )

Then there are cosmic rays and beta and Gamma and so forth.

Cosmic and Gama will get you. But exposure is the scale of danger.

Some machines in history were messy. They irrated the doctors as much
as the patients. In movies they all dress in lead aprons and stand
behind leaded glass. Neutrons come right through.

Paraffin stops neutrons. So a mixture of cement, lead, and Paraffin is
the better shield.

No, just thousands of electron guns. :)

Some trolls heads have nothing but a few neutrons between their
ears. No charge at all. :(
