Thanks, I think. That was what I was thinking.

For those that didn't read it, short form - using 1900 as a base
year, and adjusting for inflation - the Dow is in the sub 500s. The
difference between 500 and 13000 is inflation, pure and simple.
Yep, I can see a 20,000 DOW, and Gold at 2500 an ounce. I can
also see that 20 dollar gold piece still buying a Good Suit or a Fine
Pistol. Updating an old Chevy commercial "200,000 dollars, that's
allot of money. Yeah, but it is a great deal on a car."

(In the original commercial, the couple are driving in a early fifties
vintage Chevy. She's saying "19,000 dollars - that's a lot!" and he
responds "But it is a good deal for a house" Swipe to similar couple
driving the newest Chevy "19,000 dollars - that's a lot" He responds
"But it is a great bargain on a car like this.")

"Your time is up. Please deposit one million dollars for the next
three minutes."

Question for the gun Control advocates, "Do you agree with
this statement?"
"I would rather have a society without guns, even if it
means that people cannot defend themselves against murder
(with other weapons), rape, robbery, and assault. I would
rather make everyone defenseless than have to endure the
mass shootings that occasionally occur. If that means that
many more people, (particularly the old, the weak, and the
infirm) are subjected to these violent crimes, then so be
it. They'll just have to suffer more. I do claim the power
to dictate whether or not others are able to defend themselves."

After I started out at a menial factory job (for experience; I moved
up fast into engineering) my father was recounting how rough he had it
as a kid in the rural South. I asked him to convert those pitiful
wages into time. It turned out we both worked equally as long to earn
the cost of a shirt or loaf of bread. For many decades a new car cost
5 months average salary.

Yep.

People talk about the low prices of "the old days" - but rarely
consider the equally low wages. Back when $2000 was a good annual
salary.
Amazing how people will think it better to take 30 minutes to earn
enough for lunch, than when it used to be a half-an-hour's pay.

Which is one reason for the City Buss Drive /Big Mac or Starbucks
Vente Latte indexes: how long does it take for a Metro Buss driver to
earn enough for a Big Mac or a Vente Latte. A "universal" occupation
and a universal commodity

Yes, I can see Ralph Kramden ordering a Vente Latte.

Years ago, maybe in the 70's, I read an article about the cost of
living which listed the cost of kitchen equipment, i.e., Fridge, Gas
Stove, etc., in hours of work, rather then dollars, and compared it to
the same equipment in the 30's. Everything was cheaper.
