If you screw a screw tight to a plate connecting to a base plate, it is more-or-less in pure shear (no bending moment, unless the screw is cantilevered). What is the pullout/thread stripping process called? And actually, those two processes would be distinct as well, correct? Do they have proper names, or is pullout and thread stripping close enough? -- EA |

Torque wrenches are better than nothing, but you can use things as belleville washers and be more accurate. Dan |

The difference is compensating for friction. jsw |
