remote temp. monitor or alarm

It's kinda overkill, but temperature, humidity, propane level
and such are ALL of some importance, so maybe you
should consider a WiFi webcam/security camera setup.
Aim it at any bunch of thermometers and indicators you
can cobble up, and monitor it all at its own local web
site...

I have a dozen of such cameras of a different model, but almost identical
specifications.

They (especially the "Foscam" brand) are exquisitely easy to set up and use
over your home network or even as a web server via one of the free domain
services. With the free domain capability, you can even check your camera
when you're away from home.
