Slide Negative scanners?
Gunner Asch wrote:
I was given an Olympus ES-10S slide scanner a few yrs ago, and never hooked it up. Its the SCSI version, but only has the carrier for slides, and no power supply. So I dont have a clue if it works or not. Ive got many thousands of slides, some of which are 2 1/4x 2 1/4...but the vast majority are 35mm Should I try to fire this up, or simply look for another slide scanner? And if so..what would be a good cheap slide/negative scanner? Anyone with personal experience with these beasties? Thanks Gunner You'll probably have better luck posting this in a photography group. Faced with a similar decision I recently discovered that the cheapo scanners have resolution insufficient to make good scans. Film has dynamic range way superior to the cheapo scanners. The reviews on that scanner are favorable. If you can get your hands on a SCSI interface and a power supply, I'd try to use it. Be aware, according to the reviews, it takes about 15 seconds to manually focus the image and another 80 seconds to capture it. Then there's the load/unload/position/fuss with it time. You're looking at two minutes a capture times many thousands. Faced with similar math and the reasonable expectation that I'd NEVER view the scanned pictures anyway, I decided that it was easier to leave the slide projector in the attic instead of donating it to goodwill. Consider sorting the dozen pictures you really care about and take them to a photo developer that can make a CD for you. |
