You regard criticism of an elected official as anti-American while claiming to be educated in political science? You disrespected the office. Every conservative I know would call that being anti American. The president's conduct clearly shows that he doesn't respect the office but regards it as a posession and position of power won by election and public mandate. You can tell all that just by the absence of a salute? Admit it, you just have no respect for Obama so you find fault everywhere. The office does indeed deserve respect, and the conduct of the person in that office should exhibit such respect. The way he chose to behave re SSG Guiunta is way off base for the CIC of our armed forces. Okay, what percentage of Americans agree with that view? 2%? Probably less. The fact is you have to be way out there to hold that kind of view. Oh, the president didn't salute the guy he pinned the medal on. That really means a lot. Well, not to anyone that's normal. Noting his gaffes in no way disrespects the office. It does note the behavior of the man in that office regardless of party. We do that in a civil society. We didn't accept the egregiously disrespectful transgressions of Clinton or Nixon. We should not pretend that the emperor is fully clothed when he isn't. Funny you mention Nixon. I saw a get together today on Book TV that took place at the Nixon Library. Nobody there acted in any way that they had anything but respect and admiration for Nixon. Of course, those were all republicans but it shows that as bad as the behavior of Nixon was it has been accepted and forgiven by the republicans. I predict it won't be long until the right wing kooks like Ann Coulter will be trying to rewrite history and telling us how great Nixon was like she and others now do for McCarthy. So knock it off with the Obama is disrespectful stuff. It's bunk. A president and CIC choosing not to salute a soldier in his command, medal winner or not, displays arrogant disrespect if not contempt. This isn't about a vague "hope and change" political slogan or party politics, it's about the arrogant, oafish and inappropriate behavior in this instance of the man who is currently our elected civilian CIC of our men and women in uniform, who deploys them into mortal combat as CIC. The buck stops on the desk in the oval office. Well, I just happened to see a rerun of the president giving the guy his award. Obama shook his hand, put the medal around his neck, and gave him a little hug. Nothing out of line there in the least. You really have to want to find fault to criticize him in this case. Which is exactly what you did. Your criticism is as petty as it gets. It was simple bitchiness, completely political in nature. Obama did nothing wrong, period! You might have instead found fault with the medal being given at all if you ask me. Try placing this award in line with some of the others given over the years. You'll find that this is really nothing more than a bronze star event at most. I'd say that this was a case where the military was trying to find someone to pin the medal on. Read what John Basilone did on Guadalcanal and compare it to SGT. Giunta. I know the sergeant doesn't feel he deserved that medal. I'd say he's right. So maybe Obama knew that the guy didn't deserve the medal in the first place and that is why he didn't salute him. Hawke |

He tries to shake the Queen of England's hand. You can't tell me that none of his hangers-on told him about courtesy and decorum. The man thinks himself a God, that he needs no etiquette whatsoever. It's disgusting to me to see our President act like this. The rest of the "free" world seems to think the same. :-) ...lew... No, the rest of the world, there is no "free world" anymore, has a very high opinion of our president. It's just you right wing backwoods types that don't know that, and that have a poor view of him. So it's clear that cutting taxes doesn't get anyone to hire people. What cutting taxes for the rich does is it allows the already rich to spend a lot more money on personal consumption. Hawke Wow. Fourteen posts in two days in this thread by Hawke. First you do not seem to be able to grasp that Obama is human and can do anything wrong. If it is tradition to salute those that receive the Metal of Honor, then Obama should have done it. Second you use very faulty logic. If cutting taxes for the rich allows them to spend a lot more money on personal consumption, then that creates a lot of jobs making the things that the rich buy. Good example is yachts. The Democrats slapped a big tax on yachts and it nearly wiped out all the jobs in the yacht making sector before the Democrats realized what they had done and repealed the tax. Third you would have a lot more credibility if you acknowledged that all of those in Congress are human and make mistakes. You just claim the Democrats are great and the Republicans are terrible. Remember Senator Rangel? He just got a reprimand. For tax evasion, he should have gotten some real punishment. Not just told he was a bad boy. Now show that you really do have a college degree and write well reasoned posts. Dan |

And let's not forget the ultra rich Democrat politicians who repeatedly vote for raising taxes on others, as long as *THEY* can avoid paying those taxes themselves. Wow. *Fourteen posts in two days in this thread by Hawke. Yeah, that must be a new record for me. Of course, it's nothing compared to some others who shall remain nameless. I do not read a lot of what gets posted here. What some people post is not worth reading. But I do read your posts. First you do not seem to be able to grasp that Obama is human and can do anything wrong. *If it is tradition to salute those that receive the Metal of Honor, then Obama should have done it. There's your first error. I've already said several times where I think Obama is making mistakes. Afghanistan is a big one. Making a deal with the republicans to give the 2% a tax cut is a mistake, which he's going to do. So that disproves your idea I find nothing Obama does wrong. You are right. I should have said " In this instance ..... " Wrong again. .................................................. ............... it doesn't change the fact that the vast percentage of the money the rich keep doesn't create jobs. If they spend the money, it creates jobs. If they invest the money, it creates jobs. If they stick the money in a mattress, it does not create jobs. Now show that you really do have a college degree and write well reasoned posts. I always do. But I also keep my audience in mind too. I'm not in a classroom. This is an informal situation. So I write with the knowledge that lots of people in this newsgroup don't know a damn thing about the subject at hand. True, there are some idiots posting here, but you can do better. Dan |

Larry's problem is that he has no idea that he's one of the kooks and loons around here. He likes to think he's so right on and everyone else is the problem. Somebody needs to hold up a mirror for him one of these days. He's also a wimp that can't take hearing views that he doesn't like. If you don't agree with his right wing take on things he doesn't want to hear anything from you. You know the type, they call them closed minded. That's Larry old, old fashioned, and closed minded. What a combo, huh? Who wants to hear from someone like that? Hawke |
