Those vises are typically used mounted to a woodworkers' bench. They have
extremely good grip for large objects since the contact area is huge.

With wood or other soft material mounted inside the jaws, they would hold
large items very well, without marking the workpiece.

Iggy, I really hate to tell you, but those woodworking vices should
NEVER be painted!!! It will rub off onto whatever piece of wood that
gets near it. Just clean and oil and let dry.

No -- *he* didn't. He was quoting the fellow who put it on
Craigslist, who apparently did do so. Notice that the entire "Subject: "
line is in quote marks.

If *iggy* had done this, you would have seen more photos of the
sequence, and he would have used his own web site, not Craigslist to
document it. :-)

Enjoy,

Isn't a vice a fancy term for a bad habit? For example, someone who
smokes and drinks has vices.

In the vocabulary of the puritan these are vices, yes. ;-) To me, they're
just some of the pleasures life makes available to us. ;-)

BTW, I know you're talking about the difference from a vise. ;-)

ABSTAINER, n. A weak person who yields to the temptation of denying himself
a pleasure. A total abstainer is one who abstains from everything but
abstention, and especially from inactivity in the affairs of others.

I picked up some smokin' deals on "vice" grips on ebay. They didn't have a
lot of bidders, and went for low prices. Go figger.

Besides this one, at 8" would be too small for any of my vices. ;-)

Neither. They're clamps, not vises (EEk! Nipple vise? =:-O ) and the
clamp is a noun - it would be the obsession with _using_ them that would
involve 'vice.'

Hope This Helps!
