Poly ethelene (black plastic" clamps. How are they used.
 

I bought some 3/4 inch black plastic poly pipe to run water to a frost
free hydrant. I bought some clips and a tool to install them at Lowes.
How do you use these things?

I need to get this project done and the weather forcast for Christmas
Eve is torrential rain. My goal was to get this installed and check
for leaks before then but I am not sure if that is possible.

I am also going to install pipe insulation on the poly pipe before it
goes inthe ground. i will be putting conduit in the ditch as well.

Any advice is appreciated!

I am not sure what pipe insulation you are using but if it absorbs water you
might as well not use it. If frost will reach the pipe you are burying, the
water it will freeze. The pipe needs to be below the frost level.

Insulation? Why? The pipe will freeze fast if the ground is
cold enough, and insulation will slow that down by a few hours.
Alas, if the ground a foot or so down is frozen, it will DEFINITELY
stay that way for a few hours, so the pipe freezes with or without
the insulation.

Blankets keep people warm because we have an internal
heat source. Water pipes, not so much.

higher. The insulation I thought would help protect the pipe a little.
It is the foam slip on insulation.

Is it drain pipe or does it carry water regularly?

If it's graded to "empty out" by itself due to grade, then you will probably
be fine. If it's full of water all the time, those spots will possibly
freeze depending on their surface area as compared to the below-frostline
surface area and how often you run liquid through them, etc.

They make a heat wire that goes inside the pipe. It only runs when the
temp goes below freezing. Also make sure that your hose clamps are ALL
stainless steel. Some 'stainless' clamps have a non stainless screw or
clip, They will eventually rust out and fail.

The 'clips' that he talks about are a ring that crimps around the
connection. The sell this 'system' at Lowes, et al. I presume Lowes
also sells the instruction manual.
