Cannon sights??
--Workin' on my biggest hunk of metal at the moment; a little
golfball firing cannon. Trouble is the thing doesn't have sights so I'm building something similar to something I saw a while back. Basically it's a 3-legged "spider" with a sighting tube on top. By poking the pointy legs into small depressions on the barrel it becomes a removable, repeatable way to aim the beastie. Now the problem is that, because what I've got is a little shy of full scale, I have to get down pretty close to the ground and crane my neck to look thru the sight; a real pain with a sore back! What I'd like to do is build something like a telescope sighting scope, with a right angle viewer so that I need only look down, to look downrange. --Sooo has anyone got a link to something nice I can build to do this? The idea is to avoid having the thing look too awful... -- "Steamboat Ed" Haas : Dare me to Hacking the Trailing Edge! : make less sense... www.nmpproducts.com ---Decks a-wash in a sea of words--- |

Ed -
How about a cheap telescope or sighting scope that is mounted. Martin Martin H. Some optics would give me something other than 'tunnel vision' methinks. Right now I've welded two sections of 1/4" pipe together at a right angle, then cut the joint at a 45deg angle, exposing the intersection. I put a small first surface mirror there and had a look and sure enough I can see around the corner. I suppose that'll do in a pinch; I can even put a couple of crosshairs out at the end, using a reticle off of something in the shop inspection kit but it's gonna look ugly and it's going to work ugly too! :-) -- "Steamboat Ed" Haas : Dare me to Hacking the Trailing Edge! : make less sense... www.nmpproducts.com ---Decks a-wash in a sea of words--- |

Got a link? Sadly no shops sell telescopes within 60 miles of me... How much shock/recoil does this thing have? Reason I ask is that they make right angle scopes/sights for Astronomical telescopes (finder-scopes). Usually they adjust/align them via the mount and have low powered optics. For some examples see: http://www.telescopes.com/telescope-...8200+10935.cfm Might give you some more ideas... -- Leon Fisk Grand Rapids MI/Zone 5b Remove no.spam for email |

Thanks Leon -
I was going to point out Orion to Ed - but as it turns out Orion evolved into Telescopes.com. I used Orion since the mid 80's and so it seems it was a go business. Martin Martin H.
