Lucas I still use them. But they get paid off every month. Credit card companies call guys like us "deadbeats" because they don't make any money off of us. I am a member of a credit union, I stopped being ripped off by banks many years ago when I closed my accounts after being charged fees on my savings account. My money, lent to them and the *******s wanted to charge me for lending to them. No way. The credit union pays interest on my savings account and gives me a cheque book and a Visa debit card operating on that account for no fees. I also have a Visa credit card which is charged to my savings account on the 16th of the month for the previous month's purchases, of course I need to have sufficient cash in the account to pay the charge, usually I am about $500 ahead as I keep most in my internet banking account which pays a much higher interest rate and just transfer to the savings account as needed. The best part is that I receive part of the commission received by the CU from Visa, it is not much, I received $6.73 last month on about $1000 spending but it is better than a kick in the behind. I always ask for a cash discount and expect at least 3%, no cash discount then I pay by Visa. I usually food shop on a Tuesday when the local supermarket has 5% discount for pensioners - every bit helps when on a very limited income. Alan |
