Sed shop owner wound up being served with papers for patent infringement, just making parts for Mr. Cash. No one could find Mr. Cash. Shop owner is now paying off $90,000. Whaddaya think--PV'd up to the ileocecal valve? Epiglottis? Detaching retinas?? Goodgawd.... Any others hear of **** like this? Any experiences? I would not have imagined this kind of liability. Mebbe he had a lousy lawyer. wow... If Mr. Shop Owner was making a few extra and selling them out the back door, he deserved to get nailed. More probable: Mr. Cash ordered parts made that he used to infringe, Mr. Shop Owner made them with no dishonest intent -- but the freakin' lawyers go after everyone and anyone in sight, and he was more visible when Mr. Cash ducked. If that's the sit, either Mr. Shop Owner has an incompetent lawyer, didn't involve him/her early enough in the process, or cost of defense would have exceeded settlement cost. Ya can't always choose your neighbors, but ya can always vet yer clients. Bidness is bidness. There be predators wearing suits. |
