Gary H. Lucas

Locally we have one of 9,800 hp...

??

Yep, wrong, I phoned them and it's 10,725 hp.

I could theoretically write a something that should get
the results. Up to the Planck constant numbers or
material resonance of big machines, you know what
turned me off, desire to learn more about machining
physics and efficiency.

Tom:

Someone may be pulling your leg.

Just think about the size of the power source that could make 10,000
HP.

Perhaps that's why it is next door to a 155 megawatt power generation plant?

Tom:

Here is supposedly one of the world's largest cast iron frame motors:

================================================== =====================
http://www.engineeringtalk.com/news/weg/weg120.html

Weighing in at 15t each, the HGF630 motors are 2300V (50Hz)units, rated
at 2079kW and designed to achieve a performance efficiency of 97.5%.
================================================== =====================

Kw X 1.341 = HP

2079 Kw X 1.341 = 2,788 HP And weighing 30,000 lbs.!

Come on Bob, are you into toys? A mere 2MW?

Try 50MW:

Tom:

Heh, that's a biggie all right, I'll give you that. But I'm still
having a hard time picturing a 10,000 HP motor (which would be no small
item), driving a blanchard grinder.

Just two NHRA top fuel motors with some left over.

Great, but you only get to grind for 4 1/2 seconds between rebuilds.....

Dave:

Now THAT would be a fun blanchard grinder to operate! At least for a
minute or two... Top Fueler engines aren't exactly noted for their
long-term longevity. LOL
