Ideas needed for take a part joints
 

As a hobby I make items out of copper and manage to sell a few items a year.
I've recently had an inquiry for one of my items but with some
modifications. I've made a few copper pyramids for people that believe in
such things to be used in meditation and other metaphysical/mystical uses.

I've had requests to make one that comes apart for traveling as well as a
smaller version that comes apart. The only way I can think of doing this is
to have the four corner pieces cast with male stubs that the copper tubing
would slide over. However I have no means of doing any casting, plus I've
heard of some inherent problems with melting and casting copper as opposed
to aluminum which is easy to do.

Anyone care to share ideas that come to mind on this? Thanks as always for
sharing your vast amount of knowledge on the subject of metalworking. I've
learned a lot on this NG, political posts notwithstanding.

Very appealing looking item, restfull on the eyes.

Yours might be a good application for some rare earth supermagnets
grabbing each other or steel tabs soldered to the copper.

Then you could advertise that the sculpture also provides magnetic
energy with all it's supposed healing powers. G

Jeff (Who thinks your first idea is pretty good. You could probably make
up the "three ended dowels" you need by fold forming them from heavy
copper wire, with maybe a little solder flowed on to keep them from
unfolding.)

I'm not sure you would want to hear it. Probably something about
profiting from the afflicted. But if Glaxo Pharm can do it, so can you.

In other business, take a length a round copper bar the OD of the
tubing, and turn the ends down to the ID. Put a 90 degree bend in the
rod. Next- 1) profile a piece of ID sized rod to mate with the corner
bend at the proper angle. Solder. OR 2) Fixture the bent rod to put a
countersink (with an endmill)in at the proper angle. Solder on ID
diameter stud. I will leave it to others to provide copper machining
tips. I have found it to be the worst stuff to try to machine.

Or just make sheet metal corners as you do for the top, and solder
straps inside the corners that the tubing slides into. Call the corners
"power concentrators".

Isn't it a bit small? I thought one had to sit inside the pyramid to benefit
from its miraculous properties. 8-)
