Brake adjustment on Lagun mill
Hi guys! How the heck are ya? Did ya miss me? LMAO
I still lurk all the time, just don't post much, 'cause... well... umm... by the time I read the posts, someone usually already has said the same as I would. Knowing that there is a LOT of talent in here, I have a problem and I need a little help. At work, we have a Lagun mill, model fu2-lac. At one time, someone locked the spindle brake and forgot to release it before running. (I know, I know, I don't understand it, 'cause it has an air chuck, but it happens). I had a few minutes recently, and thought I'd adjust the brake, but for the life of me, I can't see how. The brake is just a lever to a eccentric pin that throws the shoes against the inside of the lower half of the variable sheave. Just like a drum brake. The shoes appear to have plenty of material on them, so I can't believe the sheave itself (which looks like pot metal) is worn. I also can't believe you would have to remove the motor, bearings and sheaves to adjust the brake. As I'm writing this, I'm beginning to wonder if the adjustment screw and jamnut located on the top of the head midway between the motor and spindle might be linked to the brake. Admittedly, I couldn't see what it adjusts because the belt is in the way, and didn't check it with an inspection mirror. Good thing I didn't start tweaking it before I know what it does! LOL Anyhow, if anyone has any experience on Laguns, could you point me in the right direction? I'll screw it up from there..... Once again, Thank You. Ron |
