Make your own shop machines

Found a bunch of cool tooling info at http://www.vintageprojects.com .
All comes from what looks like the 40s and 50s. There's even plans to
make your own lathe, powered hacksaw, electroplating... The list goes
on.

Well RDJ only EVER posts about sites he's found hosted by
limestonemedia.com and never replies to anything so IMHO he's just a
Texan driveby spammer on behalf of Limestonemedia.

Is it really spam if there is no charge for the plans? I agree close,
but don't put it exactly SPAM category.

Sure, if you have to wade through screens of ads and battle popups
navigating through to the download. Free content is often just a means
of getting faces in front of the paid ads.

Smells like spam, tastes like spam . . . .

Now if he had originally made a post like this:

Announce: New website - Make your own shop machines

We belive you will find a bunch of cool tooling info at
http://site deleted .
All articles come from the 40s and 50s. There's even plans to
make your own lathe, powered hacksaw, electroplating... The list goes

Hosted by Limestone Media.

and signed it giving his connection with the site and limestone media,
AND ALSO stuck around and participated in discussion, THEN AND ONLY THEN
he wouldn't be a spammer. Its too late now. I wonder if Limestone
media know he's damaging their name and reputation?

Well, if the guy doesn't have the balls to just say "Hey, I put up a
site with some net stuff of (description), come take a look" but instead
pulls the shill/scam technique of "I just found", it immediately makes
them suspect.

Then why do the "I just found" bull**** tactic? Everyone recognizes it
immediately, and insulting our intelligence isn't a good way to start.
Also, your credibility is further damaged by the observation someone
else made that this isn't a unique tactic for you to use.

What's the real deal here, Robert?

Oh, and:

http://groups-beta.google.com/groups...&q t_s=Search

Appears to be the only post, SPAM is generally considered MASS
unsolicted email, thus the name[bloody vikings]

ONE, post, ON TOPIC, as opposed to "BUY VXXGRA HERE" hardly makes it spam.

looks to me like some people are just looking for something to get wound
up about

I'd be more than cool with the whole deal if RDJ had simply said I
own/represent/am affiliated with/a friend of----etc.----this web site and
thought you guys might be interested. I'm simply not keen on anyone
playing the innocent roll, as if they really just "stumbled into this neat
site". If there's a charge, tell me up front. If not, tell me up
front. If you're involved in it in any way, tell me up front. Reason?
If I find that any of the above is true, and you've not been upfront with
me, there's no way in hell I'll do business with you, and I'll tell everyone
I know about you, all in a negative vain. I'll be the first one to mention
that your word is worthless, that you're a fraud, a fake. Once people lose
credibility with me, I'm finished with them, and that's irrevocable. I
don't play mind games, and refuse to knowingly be a part of them.
Further, I strongly resent anyone thinking they're so damned clever that
than can bull**** me and I won't know the difference.

Well, for all you *really serious* people, I apologize, again, for
insulting your sensibilities... Unlike what Rex has to say, there's
over 100 vintage plans available and growing. There are *no* pop ups,
pop unders, pop whatevers. The entire site is free. I own the site, and
I thought that my post would not be annoying in the way posted.. I'm
brought up not to "blow my own horn" and I am not a newsgroup reader,
so I apologize for not understanding *exactly* what some people would
like to see as a site announcement post.

So, take care, and I hope that you enjoy the site.

See it the other way round. It _seems_ to be spam (I guess it is), but
it is an exception worth looking at.
I hate spam, but I also like that old style stuff you find on that site.
If it continues the way it started, it will be OK. For _me_.
Disregarding all the SPAM pros and cons. More cons, no doubts! My scale
no doubt, too.

Chuckle! That's where you went wrong. We're not bashful here. We speak
up. If we don't know something, we say so. If we do know something, we tell
everyone. Including our capabilities. I'm damned good on machines, and
I'm the first one to bring it to the attention of others. Thing is, I can
live up to my claims. It's what made my years as a machinist so
successful.

So, take care, and I hope that you enjoy the site.

Thanks for the invitation. I'm going to investigate your site when it's
convenient for me----if for no other reason, I like mechanical things, and
you appear to have a nice collection of goodies, at least from the reports
I've read so far.

Don't get the wrong impression about the readers here. There's a pretty
decent bunch of guys, but, for the most part, we like to be told
straight----no BS. If you're selling a widget, say so, but talk about
other stuff, too. That's what we do here. Hell, some of us are even known
to talk about politics. groan

Thanks for taking the criticism in stride. Stick around, post your
thoughts, get to know the guys, and become one of us.

Hey Robert,

Yep. I liked it. Send along any more that you come across like this,
anytime.

I think that there are some/many here on RCM who like to think they
have "fine-tuned" their net systems to filter out anything but the
politics, or vice-versa, and are more upset that you snuck in a piece
about metal-working than anything else.

Take care.
