Pure metal: Should you ever come to switzerland...

Hi

OK, this is kinda OT, but also it is 100% iron content:
Yestday, I've been in Switzerland in a city near Bern and visited a
permanent exhibition of Luginbühl's metal sculptures.
Man, how impressive and how much joy!
Luginbühl is buying scrap mostly from shipyards (in Hamburg). Among the
things you find there are huge hooks from towing tucks, steam domes from
boilers, exploded boilers, huge flywheels (4+ m diam.), cranes, gas
engines, anchors, chains, cables, etc.
Then he's welding them together to make stunning sculpures, some of them
5 m high, others 10m long, very few in the lightweight-range (that is
below 1 ton). They don't see any paint and are standing outside in the
rain and snow for decades. No hall would give them enough room to look
good. Unfortunatly, the shop is in the private area, so no way to have a
look there.

Well, this is art, but none of the kind needing explanation. You come
there, start to grin and be amazed.
Children that have been there were laughing and had a lot of joy.
Some of the sculptures are diven by electric motors. If you ask, they
will kindly set them in movement.

So if you ever have the chance to come to Switzerland, go there!
The exhibition is open only one day in the month, so plan ahead.
More info: http://www.luginbuehlstiftung.ch Unfortunatly only few
pictures. I didn't take any (no camera with me). If it's raining, don't
stop yoursef going there. All looks good in the rain too.

There is also a Luginbühl-museum quite nearby in Burgdorf, that isn't
really worth visiting.
