You've been called out, and you resort to name-calling? Highly
professional. It's pretty much standard practice for most netizens to do what he did. Thinly veiled spamming is pretty prevelent in most groups, and this is obviously no different. If you would have said, "Hey, here is the website to my business, could you please check it out?" you would have gotten a better response. It's still unlikely you would have gotten any business, since it is still spam, but at least you would have been upfront and at least started out appearing to be an honest individual. Instead you chose to put up false pretenses to "advertise". Doesn't speak to many good things for your business practices. How else are you going to screw one of us over if you aren't even honest from step 0? wrote: And idiots like you got nothing better to do |

You just did the equivalent of walking into a room full of tens of
thousands of potential customers, insult all their intelligence at once, then when one calls you on it, you call him a name in public. I buy most of my tools, bits, etc. on the 'net, but you can be damned sure I'm staying away from you. I have lots of better things to do than waste my money on obviously dishonest jerks. I give enough money to the IRS to cover all my masochistic needs, thank you. What's even better is that all this stuff automatically gets saved for posterity, so anyone in the future can do a simple search and there you are, showing why potential customers should avoid you. Every post in this thread just makes it easier to find. Not only spam but his site is FULL of low-end foreign crap that everything I
looked at is about 5 times the price. You should see what he charges for Chinese brushes, I wish I could sell American made for a quarter of what he charges, I'd be rich! wrote in message oups.com... You should check out the tools at www.b2bprofessionaltools.com Great site. |

If you would have said, "Hey, here is the website to my business, could
you please check it out?" you would have gotten a better response. Better yet is to add your web site to the bottom of all your ON TOPIC posts that actually enhance the group. It's called a "sig file" and can be set up easily. Posting a message telling us you want to do that and telling us your mail program is more acceptable than pretending you are a visitor to some random site when you are indeed the site owner or admin contact. I know there's some guy named Joe here who does something with autodrills. If I ever need something of the sort, his reputation as a participant makes it obvious that I'll check out those links. We're probably wasting our efforts, though, because the ****ed-off spammer who has been exposed is probably gone by now. |

You guys should check it out BIG FAT GRIN You are right... He is probably gone. Odd, then, that the administrative and technical contact for that site just, er, _happen_ to have the same email address that you do. Could you teach me (us?) how you picked up on that that "same email address"? I did a WHOIS on www.SNIPPED through Network Solutions and it didn't show the OP's email address as the same one used for the post. But, a Google for "TJT Sales" got me to "www.tjts****.com", a company selling similar jeweler's stuff, and a WHOIS on that URL reveals the email address. Did you use an easier way to nail that one? ************** I'm still having trouble getting worked up over spam like that, which does have a reasonable relationship to the newsgroup's theme. I know that there are those who believe that if left unchecked things will reach the point where so many posts will come from spammers that the usefulness of the newsgroup will be compromised, but thus far that hasn't been a problem for me. I think that attracting new business relies greatly on creativity, and while there's little question that those kind of posts are technically dishonest, the damage is slight. Caveat emptor should always be used when dealing with any new vendor. I still remember a company salesman named I traveled around with quite a bit about 30 years ago. Every time he visited a public restroom at a convention related to our industry he'd leave a short stack of his business cards on the top of each urinal. He swore the results were well worth the effort. And (true story, cross my heart) about 15 years ago SWMBO visited the ladies' room at a professional convention and loudly asked, "Anyone here interested in a speech therapy job in Boston?". From one of the closed stalls came, "Yes, me." And from that she ended up with another employee. Jeff -- Jeffry Wisnia (W1BSV + Brass Rat '57 EE) "Truth exists; only falsehood has to be invented." |

Could you teach me (us?) how you picked up on that that "same email address"? Sure, no problem. The site I've been using for this is right at Network Solutions: http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/index.jhtml Punch in the domain in question, and there you go. His email is listed right there in "technical and administrative contact", same as he posted from. I mean...if these people aren't even going to _try_...sheesh... I did a WHOIS on www.SNIPPED through Network Solutions and it didn't show the OP's email address as the same one used for the post. Well, I don't use NetSol as a registrar, but I'm happy to use their free tools when they're good. And this one, is. Did you use an easier way to nail that one? There ya go. I'm still having trouble getting worked up over spam like that, which does have a reasonable relationship to the newsgroup's theme. I know that there are those who believe that if left unchecked things will reach the point where so many posts will come from spammers that the usefulness of the newsgroup will be compromised, but thus far that hasn't been a problem for me. Well, it's not just the "Hey, buy my crap" aspect of it, but the "oh, give me a break, how stupid do you think we are" reaction to an obvious shill. If the guy isn't honest from the beginning, what kind of service should you expect from him if you give him money and something goes wrong? I think that attracting new business relies greatly on creativity, and while there's little question that those kind of posts are technically dishonest, the damage is slight. Caveat emptor should always be used when dealing with any new vendor. Far as I'm concerned, if the first thing out of a sales-weasel's mouth is a lie, I'm done considering his product. I just told basically that to a technical sales guy at work, for a 6-figure purchase. He lied about his competitors; I had researched them and knew the real situation. The product he sells has been removed from consideration regardless of technical merits it may have, and the VP agrees with my reasoning. I still remember a company salesman named I traveled around with quite a bit about 30 years ago. Every time he visited a public restroom at a convention related to our industry he'd leave a short stack of his business cards on the top of each urinal. He swore the results were well worth the effort. Well, sure that's just advertising. That's not handing them to guys as they come in, saying "Hey, I just found this cool place that sells stuff, you should check them out". And (true story, cross my heart) about 15 years ago SWMBO visited the ladies' room at a professional convention and loudly asked, "Anyone here interested in a speech therapy job in Boston?". From one of the closed stalls came, "Yes, me." And from that she ended up with another employee. But again, that's an honest (if unusual) approach. Completely different. Dave Hinz |

certificates on his site, and didn't like the smell.
