Tipping bucket for fountain.
Anyone have plans how to make a tipping metal bucket for a water fountain.
Where the bucket fills then spills into a lower body of water then rights itself and does it all over again ? Jim |

Jim Well, you just sort of set it up so that the center of mass is below the pivot points when it is empty and above the pivot points when it is full - then it goes unstable, tips to dump the water then is stable again in the upright position. mikey |

If it's centered, it could go either way! Bill |

But, you are right, you probably want to make sure it tips the way you want it to go (unless, maybe you want it to be able to flop both ways) ;-) mikey |

And you don't want to have good bearings in there or the bucket will tip as
if fills. Better to have a little restriction in the form of a wiper to provide a stop til the bucket gets a bit further into the overfill. You don't need much of an offset and if the bucket wants to go the wrong way, turn it around. Might be fun to see a series of buckets that feed each other in a triangle and figure out which one si going to be next. If you do a good balancing at the beginning, it may last for a while. -- Why isn't there an Ozone Hole at the NORTH Pole? |

Even more entertaining could be a bucket mounted on top of a spring so that you never know which way it will tip ! (sort of look like a tulip). mikey |

Wellington has a bucket fountain which has been something of a tourist attraction for the last 40 years or so. It's a stack of bistable buckets, small at the top graduating to large at the bottom. Every few years the sealed ball bearings on the bucket pivots get replaced. I can't understand why they don't use delrin bushes, it seems like an obvious application. Maybe that would be tampering with a work of art?. |

Hey Jeff,
Try to keep this guy from being so "tipsy" he falls over. Enjoy! You just move you mouse left to right (no clicking) to keep him walking in a straight line. The object of the game is to keep him walking, without falling over, by using your mouse from left to right or right to left. Sounds pretty easy, BUT... you can't see the mouse cursor, which makes it quite difficult. Apparently the record is 82 meters! Best I got so far is 72. It's in German, but it doesn't matter .
