OT Water dispensor not working (refrigerator)
Yep, water dispensor in the side-by-side (two door) refer stopped working
about a week ago. The ice maker puts out plenty, therfore I know we have a good water connection. Can't for the life of me figure out how the water gets to the door. (Sears Kenmore reefer). When you open the door, the only connection between door and refer is the upper and lower hinge. Both hinges are way to small for a water passage. So, how does the water reach the door? Any ideas, so I can fix this, would be appreciated. Thanks, Ivan Vegvary |

There is a lock switch in the dispenser that will shut the flow off........It is to the right of the ice lever in the door--So small kids wont make a mess.......Get on your knees with the door shut and look up there with a flashlight where the ice comes out..You should find a lock switch, flick it the other way........... PrecisionMachinist (clip)You should find a lock switch, flick it the other way........... ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yep, the water comes in through a hollow hinge pin. I wish mine could be fixed by just flipping a switch. The little tube connection on the bottom of the hinge is broken off, so the rubber hose is lying on the floor. When you press a glass against the lever, that operates a solenoid valve somewhere, and runs water on the floor. Oh, well, I never thought ice water in the door was that useful anyway. |

OT Water dispensor not working (refrigerator)
Thats exactly what my side by side does, leak all over the floor when
filling a glass. Checking out a price of a new part (just need the little plastic piece that serves as the spout, which is perhaps 1/4" diam by about 3 inches long bent in the shape of a "J") sort of took me by surprise..$55.00 for just that small piece. Needless to say I left it at the repair parts house, and fashioned my own. Its unreal how cheap they make things today and then charge such high prices for the replacement parts. Thanks, Ivan Vegvary i got a whirlpool side by side conquest, probably the same thing and i asked myself the same question when looking at it(how does the water get to the door..... and yes it is in the hinges.... you have a plastic plate over the top hing and a platic plate under the bottom hinge.... i think mine was on the bottom hinge...... i have about 20 feet of coiled clear plastic pipe rounded up in the back of the bottom draws in the refrigerator side( i almost pulled them out thinking that thats what the company wanted you to use for a water like to the house plumbing.. good thing i never did that, its to keep the water cool)... if you have to get to the water faucet control in the door there is a small plastic tray thats suppose to catch the water... push down and pull to you with your finger tips and it will come out and reveal two screws to service the faucet parts, switches, ets.. hope this helps..... if you need more help, go to alt.home.repair newsgroup as there is alot of appliance repair questions and answers there.... |

There's at least one solenoid valve in the rear near the water connection. I'd suspect that, unless there is only one, and the ice maker uses it also. ~Dave Ivan Vegvary wrote: Yep, water dispensor in the side-by-side (two door) refer stopped working about a week ago. Two solenoids, one can expire. Also could be the microswitch connected to the dispense lever. Cheers, Fred McClellan the dash plumber at mindspring dot com |
