Greeting All,
Just picked up a rotary table yesterday that I bought from Marty
Escarcega .. It looks to be as advertised. The crate it was in would
probably have protected it if it had fallen out of the back of the
semi on the way to washington from arizona. It was way beef. The table
arrived in the same condition as shipped. I would be pleased to do
business with Marty again. I would recommend him to anyone. And no. I
have nothing to do with Marty. Just a satisfied customer doing the
word of mouth thing.
Cheers,
Eric R Snow,
E T Precision Machine.

I'll join in here. Marty is one of those people who make the world a better
place. Besides having an enormous range of skill sets, Marty is a darn
swell human being too.

Hey Andrew,

I think we agree that it was praise for Marty, whether we hear here in
the Colonies or in the UK .

hmmm, seems to me if you use both, it works, and works in either order.

hear me here, 'over here, hear me'. yup, yup, that must be it, the
"bilingual" answer direct from rcm.... grin --Loren

Hoping that your reply was said TIC.....................

I've never been able to afford a set of the OED, so my determinations
are still suspect of course, but under "hear" in my Collins English
Dictionary one definition says:

7. hear! hear! an exclamation used to show approval of
something said.

I could find nothing similar under "here" in the same volume, except
the terms:

2. here and there
4. here's to (this might apply to Marty tool)
6. here we go again (does that apply here?)
7. neither here nor there (definitely applies!)

Here here :)

That's why I enjoy listening to BBC World Service television and radio
- they still speak English over there. In NA the dialect seems to
consist of a strange mixture of ungrammatical contractions, strained
acronyms, PC buzz words and those who can't seem to utter a sentence
without saying "you know" or "I mean".

End of rant :)

Here vs Hear was Doing deals with Marty Escarcega

I am fortunate enough to have a set of the original OED ("A New English
Dictionary on Historical Principles") and this is the entry:

The imperitive Hear!, now usually repeated, Hear! hear! (formerly Hear
him! hear him!) is used as an exclamation to call attention to a speaker's
words, and hence has become a general expression of approbation or
'cheering'.
It is now the regular form of cheering [CHEER sb, 8] in the House of
Commons, and expresses, according to intonation, admiration, aquiescence,
indignation, derision, etc.

following this are quotes from nine publications from 1689 through 1865 to
illustrate the history of usage.

b. Hence as sb. Hear, hear! (formerly hear-him), a cheer. Also Hear-hear
v. intr., to shout 'hear! hear!; trans., to acclaim with shouts of 'hear!
hear!'; to cheer. Hence Hear-hearer.

then nine more historical quotes from 1727 to 1895.

I've never been able to afford a set of the OED, so my determinations
are still suspect of course, but under "hear" in my Collins English
Dictionary one definition says:

7. hear! hear! an exclamation used to show approval of
something said.

Well, they're no Al-Jazeera, or Straits Times. :-)

But they do still have a reputation for even handed reporting of
world events which is a cut above most news services. Of course,
as usual with current affairs reporting, you need to get information
from a wide variety of sources, and not just blindly trust any one
source. News reporting is never free of cultural and political biases,
you have to glean the reality out of all the dross by looking at the
topic from a number of angles.

The BBC USED to have a reputation for even handed reporting of world events.
Now they push their agenda as vigorously as Pravda did in the past :)

any in particular. They haven't been supporting the UK gov't for one

I have a friend, an admitted Socialist. He claims that all the
networks are Far Right Wing.

What you see on the telly, is judged by your own political stance. If
you dont see anything askance on a network, when you are Left, then
its not surprising.

This is the problem East and West Coast politicians have. When you
only associate with those that think like you, everyone else appears
to be "out there", no matter if they are the majority or not. Most
folks forget that the majority of America..IE "fly over country" is
conservative for the most part, and the squeeky wheels on the Left
come from Leftist enclaves, so its easy to understand why they think
they are speaking for the people..because they never get out of those
enclaves, and arrogantly think everyone else is just like them.

Hmm - interesting perspective, I suppose. Perhaps they're reporting the real news instead of what the US news has swallowed
hook line and sinker.
