are still suspect of course, but under "hear" in my Collins English
Dictionary one definition says:

7. hear! hear! an exclamation used to show approval of
something said.

I could find nothing similar under "here" in the same volume, except
the terms:

2. here and there
4. here's to (this might apply to Marty tool)
6. here we go again (does that apply here?)
7. neither here nor there (definitely applies!)

That's why I enjoy listening to BBC World Service television and radio
- they still speak English over there. In NA the dialect seems to
consist of a strange mixture of ungrammatical contractions, strained
acronyms, PC buzz words and those who can't seem to utter a sentence
without saying "you know" or "I mean".

I am fortunate enough to have a set of the original OED ("A New English
Dictionary on Historical Principles") and this is the entry:

The imperitive Hear!, now usually repeated, Hear! hear! (formerly Hear

'cheering'.

Well, they're no Al-Jazeera, or Straits Times. :-)

But they do still have a reputation for even handed reporting of
world events which is a cut above most news services. Of course,
as usual with current affairs reporting, you need to get information
from a wide variety of sources, and not just blindly trust any one
source. News reporting is never free of cultural and political biases,
you have to glean the reality out of all the dross by looking at the
topic from a number of angles.

What agenda is that and can you give any examples? I haven't noticed
any in particular. They haven't been supporting the UK gov't for one
in the WMD "evidence" fiasco.

I have a friend, an admitted Socialist. He claims that all the
networks are Far Right Wing.

What you see on the telly, is judged by your own political stance. If
you dont see anything askance on a network, when you are Left, then
its not surprising.

This is the problem East and West Coast politicians have. When you
only associate with those that think like you, everyone else appears
to be "out there", no matter if they are the majority or not. Most
folks forget that the majority of America..IE "fly over country" is
conservative for the most part, and the squeeky wheels on the Left
come from Leftist enclaves, so its easy to understand why they think
they are speaking for the people..because they never get out of those
enclaves, and arrogantly think everyone else is just like them.
