Default Ice maker creaking.

I have a year and a half old Maytag side by side refrig with the ice
and water in the door.

All of a sudden yesterday the ice maker in the freezer started
creaking while it is making ice. I can put my hand on it while it
creaks and feel a vibration.

Any body point me to where I might start looking for the problem?

Thanks

Probably in the ice maker. Generally, they aren't field servicable except to
remove and replace.

Does it make good ice? Might just be a side effect of the operation.

Hi,

I have a year and a half old Maytag side by side refrig

Check your warranty in the use&care manual, many of these have a 2 year
parts only warranty.

All of a sudden yesterday the ice maker in the freezer started
creaking while it is making ice.

Bad motor inside the icemaker, chemical build up on the mold parts
making the cubes hard to eject, broken/breaking arm inside the icemaker
head....probably new icemaker time.

If the noise is constant, it isn't coming from the icemaker. The icemaker
motor only runs when it's harvesting the cubes. Are you sure it isn't the
freezer fan motor?

I would take the ice collection tray out if you have one and just look
around for any obstructions first. Maybe something from the freezer flew
into the cube tray or where they rotate out of the maker.

If you notice that your ice making had decreased in the same period that the
noise started you might check to see if some ice is stuck and causing the
plastic arms to stick. That happened to mine a few times, water spills over
and ice forms and when the prongs that pop the ice cubes out got to rotate
they can't because the ice has them stuck, this can make it creek...

If you are making ice as much as you always has it may be something else....
but it's worth checking it out.

This is Turtle.

The Creeking noise that you speak about is the plastic gears slipping when
waiting for the mold heater element to make the ice cubes turn loose and also
make the creeking noise when the fingers are hung up in anyway, too. If the
gears are real good and not worm any at all. the gears will not slip and make
the creeking noise. Now when they start creeking while normal operation the
gears are getting worm down and will in the future bite the dirt when they break
a tooth or two.

The O.P. did say it was still making ice so being stuck long term was not the
case. Now it could have spell where it would start and then stop hanging up with
ice holding the teeth.

I really don't know because I can't see it from here and he has that Ford
Station Wagon parked in the way.
