Yeah I was surprised! The typical reaction that all bugs MUST be got rid of?
But I gathered from this news group some time back that there are at least
two lady bug types?
One type can bite?
But anyone recall the facts?

Come to think of it, I have seen any yet either (Columbus area). It is
still a little early, but I would expect to see some now that we have had a
few cold spells.

It would be nice if they all decided to move, but somehow I doubt it.
Of course I want our regular ones back along with the honey bees.

I think you are talking of the asian lady beetle. It looks something like a
ladybug, but is brown with black spots rather than red with black. I don;t
thin it is related at all to the ladybug. Do a google on either and you'll
find info.

Haven't seen any (Asian Lady Beatles) here in the Chicago area. Last
year while setting up our Halloween display, they were everywhere,
including on us. And they do bite or pinch or whatever. This year
there were only a few Box Elders.

around only every hundred years. I seem to remember they came last year
after a freeze and warmup.

Not likely, they are not native to North America. They are an import.
A rather poor import.

Lady beetle is the proper name of what we call "ladybugs". The
Multi-colored Asian lady beetle is just one of over 5000 cousins of
what you are referring to ladybugs.

If you lived in Northern Ohio ... you would understand. It's not just a few
Lady Bugs out by the rose bushes ... It's zillions of them (well a bug that
looks very similar).
Last year I could turn on my ceiling fan and you literally could hear them
being blown off and clicking against the wall. There were so many in my garage
2 yrs ago (basement garage) that when I backed my car out you could hear them
*crunch* under the tires.
I found them in my baby's crib, in the toilet, in the washer and dryer, in the
walls, pretty much everwhere. Strangely enough I never found them in our food.

There are a few hardy lady bugs here in Eastern Iowa but I have seen
them only when the weather is warmer. Most have gone into
hibernation.

There's one called something like a Japaneese Lady bug which looks
similar to the real Lady Bug but is more orange and I think it bites.
Also have read if squished it stinks; have squished a couple and have
smelt a slight odor but no where near a stink. OTOH I'm squishing
inside a small piece of paper or napkin, depending on what I have
handy.

The wet spring/summer and cooler temps have helped to keep the beetles in
check. They'll be back. Enjoy the break from this pesky nuisance.
