Design ideas - bathroom

Trying to figure out what to do with the space above a privacy wall
between toilet and pedestal sink. Privacy wall is about 40" tall and
4" wide. Key criteria is to let light through the space but want to
incorporate some sort of shelving/storage for toiletries.

Some ideas:
1. glass block on outside edges with glass shelving every two courses
2. stairway of shelves starting with full length piece on wall and
shorter piece as they go up for a total of 4 shelves or so. Could
maybe do shelves in glass but then how would they mount??
3. put a capping material on top of wall (tile, wood, something) and
call it a day.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

1: how will you replace a shelf if it gets broken?

2: you can get small clips that mount on wire cables that will hold the
outside edge of the glass. they're frequently found for displaying glass art
on walls. a site that has them is http://www.arakawagrip.com/index.html

3: pretty easy to do. get a piece of scrap granite at a countertop
fabricator for really cheap, a piece of wood that matches the cabinets, or
use the same as what you're using for flooring.

Excellent point on No. 1. It always helps to get another perspective
to see the obvious. Any new ideas for this space that haven't been
mentioned??

Thanks,
Zeke

You could make a wood frame (similar to framing out a wall) using 1X
material ripped to the exact width you want. One side would attach to
the wall, top attach to the ceiling, bottom plate attached to the top
of the privacy wall, and the remaining frame member would be supported
by the top and bottom plates. Router groves in the two sides to slide
shelves into or put the sides on a drill press and drill for dowels to
go thru. The unit could be painted or stained to match decor of the
bath. To spruce up the top install a crown moulding around it. Hope
I am clear enough, lol.
