Is the gas from toilet tablets toxic?
 

Im retired (72) & primarily use a very small guest bathroom with a quickly
nasty looking toilet bowl. I recently used spa brominating tables instead of
chlorine tablets (in a Kaboom system that bypasses the tank) for fear of
inhaling chlorine gas. The bromine tablet worked great but also has a strong
odor. Is the off gassing from bromine or chlorine tablets toxic?

The gas from someone's anus is far worse.

Especially from yer pre-op moulie tranny 'Pleasance's' anus.

IDK why you're worried about chlorine gas. Googling the Kaboom thing,
it's a toilet cleaning add on that puts some small amount of whatever
into the water to allegedly keep the toilet clean. The odds that it's
going to generate anything dangerous under normal use seems non-existent.
But one does have to wonder if that's true under all conditions and
apparently this thing puts whatever it puts into every refill of the
toilet. So, I suppose if it refills with something that has bleach
in it and you put acid into the toilet to remove ring stains, that
could generate chlorine gas, but whether it could produce enough to
be dangerous, IDK. Just saying that when you have something that always
puts something into toilet water, somebody should have considered the
obvious potential issues, what does the Kaboom instructions say?

As for bromine tablets, same would apply. By themselves, nothing to worry
about. They are used in spas for example. But if someone comes along and
pours another product into the toilet bowel, thinking that it's just water,
then it would depend on the chemistry. Some manager at a fast food
restaurant just died from chlorine gas. Apparently a worker was cleaning
the kitchen floor with a bleach based cleaner, unaware that another acid
product had been spilled on it. It produced a green bubbling mess, people
were choking from it and the manager elected to try to push it to a drain.
He died, others were hospitalized but survived.
