'It's a freaking mess': Texas' stunning new gun laws one day aftermassacre
As Texas mourns the loss of a further seven people from its latest mass
shooting, the state has controversially introduced legislation that relaxes its gun laws. The new laws came into effect on Sunday, just one day after the shooting between the towns of Midland and Odessa. https://au.news.yahoo.com/texas-impl...030431512.html facepalm -- Bod |

They made it legal for people to have guns locked in their cars when on school property, made it clear that it's legal to carry in a church, etc. That could lead to a good guy with a gun being in a church if some nut shows up. But again, what they lack is a permit process so that there is a real, reasonable background check before a person is able to buy a gun. So far, the recent shooting, all we know is the guy did have a prior arrest and conviction for criminal trespassing and eluding or resisting arrest. If there was a permit process, you'd hope that the local police doing the background check would then look more closely at what happened there and do some more checking with current people who know him at home, work, etc. What would they have found? We don't know yet. As it works now in TX, you could have a dozen convictions like that, your co-workers could know that you're a crazy hot head and that you're being treated for mental problems and you can still buy all the guns you want. |

When I see signs saying "gun free zone" I get a little scared. What a place to safely carry out your mass shooting with no fear of retaliation. Show me where it saved a life and I'll change my mind. Meantime: Yet while Governor Abbott, a Republican, spoke of a need for change, he himself gave the green light earlier this year for a change which sees its gun laws relaxed further. He signed the new laws that eased restrictions on where firearms can be carried, from schools to churches, apartments and foster homes, and barred cities from passing their own gun and ammunition sales limits. |
