A septic system recently failed inspection due to water raising over the
outlet pipe (previously raised) within the tank. The system is 30+ years old.
During inspection, the auger holes dug over the drain field reached only 4-5
inches before water was found (state requirement/recommendations is 12-18
inches). During inspection, a camera was inserted into the pipes in the drain
field which showed debris and roots- however the flow test showed the level of
water in the septic tank decreased approx 1 inch after 20 minutes (showing
some drainage was occurring).

Can this be remedied with hydro-jetting the drain pipes? What are the benefits
of hydro-jetting? What are the risks? Can hydro-jetting prevent having to
replace the failing drain field (even though there is already too much water
in the field?). Please help! Thank you!

Heard about if for wells a while back so googled your question. Lots of
discussion but this answer would bother me about trying it:

"The average cost of hydrojetting is about $800 to $1,200. Although a
small percentage of septic failures may be cured by hydrojetting, it is
our experience that the majority of septic system failures require a
septic repair."

We had to have an alternate leach field put in a year after buying this
house so now I can just switch back and forth if one gets saturated.
Been over 40 years with no problems.

Sometimes hydro jetting the drain field pipes provides temporary relief.Â* Unfortunately, once the **** clogs up the drain field, the only way to really fix the problem is to rebuild the entire drain field.

And from now on, have your system pumped out every 3 years or so.
