Designed in California, made in China: how the iPhone skews U.S.trade deficit

This highlights how stupid Trump's idea of imposing tarrifs on China is.
The man hasn't a clue on the repercussions.

Forty-five U.S. trade associations representing some of the largest U.S.
companies urged the president on Sunday not to impose tariffs on China,
warning it would be €śparticularly harmful€ť to the U.S. economy and
consumers.

Retailers and shoemakers, including Wal-Mart Inc (WMT.N) and Nike Inc
(NKE.N), also sounded the alarm on Monday over concerns the plans would
result in higher consumer prices.

Trump doesn't even have a clue as to whether we have a trade deficit
or surplus with Canada. Much worse, it's was his signature campaign
issue for a couple years. He's been in office 14 months. And much,
much worse he bragged about not knowing, not caring, putting forth
BS lies in his meeting with Trudeau. And incredibly, he's so stupid
that he actually bragged about it! Putting on tariffs and ignorant
of the most basic info.

So, good luck explaining the nuances of what the deficits actual
come from or how they are accounted for. Trump has repeatedly
referred to trade deficits as "losses", as if it's a profit and
loss situation. Wharton should ask for the degree back.

Tough **** for ChinaMart and Chinike. Considering the price Nike asks
for Chinese sneakers they care **** all about consumers.

If you believe prices are too high on sneakers, that the companies
are making high profits, feel free to start a company and sell them
for substantially less and you'll make a lot of money. Sounds like
you know about as much about business and care about as much about
facts as Trump. No need for facts when some good old xenophobia
and jingoism are easier.

Good idea, maybe then you'd get some common sense policies and sensible
diplomacy.

Thank you for your endorsement.

And I'd note that once again, Uncle like the typical trumpet, tries to
portray it as if the only choice in America was Trump or Hillary. We had
16 other candidates running in the GOP primaries, including 5 very
successful governors with experience. All of the 16, as far as one could
tell from observation, were sane. Trump obviously was not only incompetent,
but nuts. It was the trumpets that foisted him on us, that insisted it
had to be Trump. So, here we are. And I fully expect that the GOP will
pay a very heavy price, putting an end to their dreams about remaking
America, in November. And the net effect I fear will be that it results
in the country moving more firmly and possibly irrevocably in the opposite
direction. That is why I warned about Trump.
