Kenmore Washer leaks

The Kenmore (elite) washer has been leaking at the end of the wash cycle and
at the end of the rinse cycle(s). The leak is from either the washer bottom
to the pump or the pump to the. I placed dry paper towels around these two
joints and determined that the entry to the pump is leaking.

I have checked all the hoses and removed and reconnected them after cleaning
some of the white sludge. No improvement.

Any ideas?

Is that the front loader? Someone posted that the newer ones have a
different designed pump which hate regular (non front loader) detergent.

Hi,

The Kenmore (elite) washer

Cute name but does little to ID the washer model/style Model#? Kenmore
is made by a few different manufactures.

Some model# helps.

has been leaking at the end of the wash cycle and

Drain pump on the top load washer style is a common leaking trouble
maker. A fairly quick way to narrow down where to look for a leak,
place a sheet of cardboard under the washer ( it should be almost as
big as the washer ) and run a short cycle. When the washer is
finished, look for the wet spot on the cardboard, this will help point
you in what direction to look for where the leak is coming
from...front...back...right side...left side. If you find the leak to
be a bad pump, replace the pump.

look at it again, bet its the pump shaft seal that is leaking.. used to
be able to service the pump seals about 35 yrs. ago,, now you have to
replace the whole pump... take the pump off and if you find a rust mark
or a water leak mark on it then its the pump leaking....

Sorry for not mentioning the model # -
It is SM 9710803-A
I did check the leak area by wrapping paper towel at all the three "water
connections under the unit". The connection from the "washing container" to
the water pump showed the leak. The connection from the pump to the outlet
tube did not show the leak either at the pump end or the outlet tube end.
This leak happens only when the pump kicks in after the wash cycle. The leak
is less when the pump kicks in after the rinse cycle.
From the replies so far- it appear that the pump is leaking at the inlet
end?
Are you saying that the pump needs replacement?
Thanks for your patient replies.

Could it be an overtightened hoseclamp?

That -looks- like a serial# rather than a model#. Kenmore model#'s are
more like 123.45678910 or 123 45678910
