GE washer make loud thump as it changes direction during agitation
GEWJE5550K2WW bought in 2009. During wash/agitation drum seems to be slamming/thudding when it changes direction. It seems from research this is shaft/mode shifter gone bad. Happily drop the $160 on the replacement parts and repair it, just want to make sure that is the problem. Tempted to replace the unit, if it is something worse. Parts a GE WH38X10017 Shaft & Mode Shifter Asm Supco TB123A Spanner Wrench General Electric WH2X1193 Hub Nut Confirmation? Thanks! |

HAve you looked for videos on doing the repair? Usually there are videos out there showing people with similar problems and doing the fix. |

Just buy all the parts that touch the shifter. Seals, hub bearing, etc. The hardest part is getting the tub nut off. Not much room in the tub to whack the wrench. Just be patient - and remember it's left hand thread. Check your new nut in case I'm wrong, as it's been a few years since I did it. Repair clinic has a good vid on disassembling these machines. |
