Ceiling fan issue
Starting off, I don't have a lot of confidence in the people that wired and
built my mom's house, it's at least 30+ years old. Some of the light switches are backwards, the breakers are connected to seemingly random outlets through the house, etc. There's a ceiling fan on the back porch that we decided to replace, it's attached to a 4 foot extension pole from the ceiling. Judging from the craftsmanship, the porch was an add-on after the house was built. We wired the new fan up and the breaker won't turn on, it instantly flips itself as soon as you turn it on. Luckily, the wiring for the old fan had the same color wires as the "new" fan we installed, which was a new fan we've had for years and just never used. Not sure if it's something I did, but the light switch for the fan is now backwards since we've installed the new fan. Any tips or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks for your time. -- for full context, visit https://www.homeownershub.com/mainte...e-1136298-.htm |

How so you know the light switch for the fan operates backwards (I assume that's what you mean), if the breaker instantly trips? If it's a single pole switch, IDK how you could have wired it so the light is on when the switch is off. |
