First oil change in Forester
 

Cost $55 at Matt Slap plus I got $5 off from a coupon at their website.
They did the multi-point inspection for free and took tire pressures all
to 36 psi. Said I did not need tire rotation first time there so total
bill was $50.

Think John said it would cost him $150. If so it would be worth coming
here.

Know you are not back yet but hope you had a good trip.

Oops, this was supposed to go to brother and his wife.

Been a year since I bought car but has only 6,000 miles on it.

Been very happy with Forester and so is brother who bought the same car
a week before me but I did not know it. Both in mid-seventies, we don't
drive much and his has same mileage.

My son bought a Forester from the estate of a family member of one of his close friends. Yes,
he bought a dead guy'a car.

Even with the cost to have it shipped from Kentucky to Nevada it was almost $2K cheaper than
the same year/milage that was available nearby. The estate gave him a great deal just to get it
sold with no hassle. He loves it.

I had a GL wagon back in the late 80s. I loved it until the seat belt anchor rusted out and
pulled out of the floorboard while I was giving the baby seat it's daily tug test. Since the car
was about 6 years old at the time, Subaru said "tough luck". I was not happy. Hopefully
somebody got a new kidney after I donated it.

Many states allow re-issuing a pink slip with no info about previous
condition. IOW, cars that would be be required to be "totalled" by
other states are half-assed repaired and then shipped --with new
pinks!-- to other states, for sale. It's a major ongoing problem.

Sounds like you might have bought one.

Well, if the factory where it was built experienced a flood and they still
shipped the cars to the dealers to sell as new, I guess it could have been
a flood car. If that was the case, they did a really, really good job of
cleaning up my brand new car.

Maybe it was a clean water flood.

Many states allow re-issuing a pink slip with no info about previous
condition. IOW, cars that would be be required to be "totalled" by
other states are half-assed repaired and then shipped --with new
pinks!-- to other states, for sale. It's a major ongoing problem.

It's a premature rust-out for sure.
Even in the road-salt-crazy areas in Canada -
a seatbelt anchor would not normally rust out in 6 years.
My guess is - a minor undetected leak into the interior
... clogged drain hole in a door or somewhere - that
slowly drains into the seatbelt anchor area.

That or incompatible metals - the anchor vs. the body.

On the other hand, this is the same vehicle on which the front edge of the
hood also rusted out. I left it parked with the nose pointed into the wind
one windy wintry night. The car started right up in the morning and I clean
off the snow and drove to work. After about 10 miles the car started running
really rough and I didn't think I was going to make it to work.

A buddy owned a repair shop right near my work so I chugged and sputtered
up the door of one of his bays just as the car died. He came out and popped
the hood and the problem was obvious. A whole bunch of snow had blown up
under the hood through the rusted front edge and covered the engine. It
started fine while the snow was frozen, but once it started to melt every
thing got wet. We pushed it into his shop, pointed a bunch of heaters at it
and left it to dry out while I went off to work.

By the end of the day it was fine and I drove it home.
