GE refrigerators have serious quality control issues.....
This is the freakin 3rd main board which has burned the evaporator fan
resistor...
However, the main logic board part# WR55X10151
which is used on many of their 22 cu ft models keeps burning up the
resistor at R95.......(at the evaporator fan connector) When this
happens, the evaporator fan will not work.
Replaced the board twice now.......and that 2ohm 1watt resistor always
runs very hot.

Replaced the evaporator fan and the main board #2 in Jan 2003.
Now exactly 1.5 years later...here we are again. I could never buy
another GE appliance after this
experience.

I went out to buy a new Neptune washer and dryer. The salesman was pushing
for the touch screen model. Novel, the most expensive. As I have worked with
higher tech electronics in the field for 10 years. I immediately went to the
models that had nothing but LED's and push buttons. I do not need to program
in Spanish.
All companies have trouble with the circuit boards. None of the electronics
is made my the appliance company. So If you manage to get into a bad batch/
or poor design your screwed and blued. Heat and quality control are the
biggest problems in the industry.
My ex company produced a $6000.00 meter that the screens went blank. If you
can not see the screen you can not do anything. Spent over a year replacing
them. Get this they never kept records to see where the units went. Only
thing that they knew was they were produced for 7 months, did not even know
the number produced. Seems the plasma screen either leaked, or had to much
gas in it. They changed to LED screen.

Sorry to hear about the problems. I had a Chevy PU once that was a lot
worse.
Sold it with 48k miles, 5 years old. I had installed 5 fuel pumps, 2
electric seat motors, 2 windshield motors, 2 complete sets of injectors, and
2 computers. I bought something else and never looked back.
Ever consider cooling the board (s)? A small fan might help.

Spoke to GE service at 1-800-437-3783.....( unpublished #)
They offered to replace the board and the evap fan, without admitting
anything was wrong.
The woman was well trained....she never cracked. This company lives in
denial.
They KNOW they have a problem with these WR55X10151 main boards and
the Evaporator panasonic variable speed motor. Instead of being honest
about it and telling their customer,
we'll get this straight one way or another because it's the right
thing to do. This is too important to
pretend it's not happening.

Frankly, I think you could make a reasonable argument that the main
board is integral to the proper functioning of the compressor and
should covered by the five year warranty. Door handles are covered by
the one year warranty....ok, but the refrigeration part should be 5
years.

My confidence is not restored, though I 'm grateful the fridge is
getting parts to be fixed...
Who knows how long this time.

Too bad there 2 electronic boards in those models as well. Actually
I've heard very few problems of the actual electronic *display*
controls failing... it's the other ones (the ones also in your model)
which you have to worry about.

That's one idea that has some merit. The real question is, what is this
resistor for? Now if its in series with the motor, maybe its there to
act as a fuse. The motor locks up or binds, the resistor over heats and
blows open. If that the case, maybe a lower value resistor might be more
durable (.5 to 1 ohm). Or, maybe a in line fuse. Some speakers use
an 12 volt automotive dome light as a current limiter.

If i stuck with a 2 ohm, i would use a 5 watt wire wound type in a
square ceramic package. Those are pretty durable.

Here are the GE Hotpoint Refrigerators which probably have this
problem...
All these models use the same WR55X10151 main board and evap with
variable speed fan.

If it will help anybody else : Not recommended IMHO....until they
declare they have been fixed.

The resistor R95 once it's burned....replacing it does not get the
board to work again. It's dead.
Surface mounted IC's, components on both sides of the board and then
a non conductive clear plastic coating over everything...makes it
almost impossible to solder and repair. This is board replacement
action...
