Why do US police have to just keep killing people rather than disabling
them and arresting them?

They don't become repeat offenders that way.

The term "due process" springs to mind. When did US police officers get
authorized to act as prosecutor, judge, jury, and executioner in
addition to their other responsibilities?

The answer to your question is simple. They were acting in self defense. Do you have a problem with that?

That's a more sensible answer than the previous ones. But all too often
the dead person was found to be unarmed.

All too often? 48 people were killed by cops where the WaPo database
decided they were unarmed (although a check of the first ten 4 had
knives, or other non-firearm weapons on them). FBI suggests around 11
million interactions with people by police per year.So there was one
unarmed (or at least ungunned) office involved shooting for every
231,500 encounters. All too often?
