Huh?

I might have figured out some of that. The poster let go of the button
that keeps the gas flowing to a pilot light that isn't hot yet. He let
go of the button too soon. The thermocouple hadn't heated up enough so
the valve closed. Somehow, this seems to have been an unexpected event.
