The installers I've narrowed down to offer these two systems. The
installers are highly recommended and have a reputation for quality
work. We're going to add on an electronic air cleaner - the Trane
system would use a Trane EAC and the Carrier would use the Honeywell
EAC. Prices are very similar. Opinions?

The installer is the most important part of the equation.

If all things are equal to you then buy the one that uses the least amps.
Just a WAG.

I would think twice about the electronic air cleaner. After it's around 3 to
5 years old you'll start having trouble with it. I have a Trane too and when
I first got the unit you could hear it snap crackle and pop often, and then
the damn thing died and they want a ton to replace it. There has been a lot
of complaints with them. If I had it to do all over again I would get the
unit that has the 4, 6, or 8 inch thick filter that you have to change once
a year. I think the filters are about $38 apiece.
Just a warning to you investigate that unit!!

I'm hearing a lot of that, not really all that surprising I guess.
There does seem to be a lot of enthusiasm for the Aprilaire 5000 unit
though, so that may be an option. Thanks for your input!
