More MOEN Kitchen Faucet Woes
"Filipo" wrote in message om... I have a single handle MOEN kitchen faucet and the water flow pattern and pressure is giving my wife a fit and threatening marital harmony. This model is the one with the pull out spout attached to a long flexible metal tube that retracts into the faucet base and under the sink. Her complaint is that it does not give her the "strong whooshing sound and pressure and white bubbly stream" that we get from all the other faucets in the house - (translation - the pressure is low (though OK at the source), the aerator does not function satisfactorily - hardly any air bubbles, the diameter of the water stream is small, more like a little kid's **** instead of a full-bodied large diameter stream) I have played around with the 4 wire mesh screens inside, using from 1 to 4 of them alternately, and the results are never satisfactory. Without the screens, the pressure is strong but there is no aeration and the water splatters all over the sink. With the screens, the pressure drops and we are back to the no-whooshing flow. I want to avoid replacing the whole faucet assembly because the installation of this faucet was extraordinarily difficult - the required hole was so big so the plumber enlarged the hole to the point that no wrench would fit to tighten it since the wrench would run up against the wall. Thus, to remove the faucet, the whole sink has to be taken out! It seems to me that the only solution is to replace the spout with another spout that has a bigger diameter outlet and a functioning aerator. Or is there a fix within the existing MOEN spout itself? How do I open the spout to get into the innards? Should I use a screwdriver to separate the black rubber part from the stainless steel body? Is there any point in doing this? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much. ftt check the screen where the hose attaches to the faucet instead of the screen at the end of the faucet!. |
