Thanks I'm no pro, but in the bottom of the toilet tank there is a plug or a flap that is lifted usually by a chain connected to the lever. When you push the lever down, the chain pulls up on the flap and it flushes. The chain may have fallen off or something similar. Of course this is assuming that you have water in the tank. PS: you can make a toilet flush by dumping a gallon or two of water quickly into the bowl in case you need to use the facility before it is repaired. Frank |

URGENT :Toilet Flush not working
Amy ~ Depending on what kit you purchased at Wal Mart, there should be
directions either on the box or in it. If you purchased a Fluidmaster replacement unit, their directions are very "user- friendly." One word of advice is not to overtighten any parts - the locking nut that connects the valve to the tank specifically. It is an easy job to do so don't become overwhelmed with the process. You should do just fine. Read all the instructions before you begin replacement and watch for all the adjustments you will need to do after installing it. Jim "amy kane" wrote in message m... URGENT :Toilet Flush not working
Take the lid off off the tank and look at the arrangement and try to
visualize how it works. A float senses high water level and closes a valve stpopping incoming water. Handle rises a plug on the bottom of the tamk allowing water to dump into the bowl starting the flush. Siuggestion for rapidly dumping in a gallon is a good one and that is anaologous to pulling up the flap. Does your handle activate the plug on the bottom of the tank? If not that probably is the problem needing fixing. We had difficulty flushing one of our and sometimes couldn't initiate a flush. Day I asled Kohler for suggestions the handle snapped off of old age. $5.00 for replacement handle solved the problem. Bought 3 the same day so the other 2 handles were replaced making them easier to flush. Would be helpful to understand how the innards work rogether. Isn't a complex process. Please let us know what happens. On Tue, 19 Aug 2003 18:51:14 GMT, peter wrote: If you give more particulars of exactly what is not working, we could be more helpful. |

Would a person with a little handyman/woman work experience be able to fix it ? or do I need to get a handyman or specialist ? Toilets rarely explode, or catch fire. Once you've switched the water to it off, there is practically nothing you can do to it unless you use too much force and break things, that'll make things worse. Turn the water off, drain the tank (at worst you can empty it with cups, or use a hose to siphon). Now work out how it's supposed to work, possibly with dissasembly, and find out what's wrong. It's likely you'll find a perished flap or washer, or maybe the lever/push has become disconnected. Replacing this should fix it. -- http://inquisitor.i.am/ | | Ian Stirling. ---------------------------+-------------------------+-------------------------- Lord, grant me the serenity to accept that I cannot change, the courage to change what I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they ****ed me off. - Random |
