2nd story on post / beam home????
An excellent investment for an engineer, Tim. A thorough inspection would
involve existing beams, exterior walls, existing rafters, etc. A few hundred dollars now could probably save you thousands in the long run. Jim "tim" wrote in message om... Hello all. My wife and I own a 3/2 single story home, 1100 square feet. We are thinking of adding a second story to increase the living space. There's not too much room to add outward, hence we thought a second story would make the most sense. The home was built in 1948 and is a post and beam construction with a crawl space. The current roof is a rafter style construction and there is one large load bearing wall running through the middle of the house. Is it a major deal adding a second story to a post and beam home, i.e. jacking up the house to reinforce the beams, etc.. etc.. Any other thoughts from those who have attempted this? I know for certain there are multilevel post and beam homes in existence:) Thanks for all, -tim |
