Default Cultured marble cover up ?

Can cultural marble counter tops or back splashes be roughed up with heavy
grit sand paper and then normal 4x4 or 6x6 ceramic tile be applied over the
old counter top ?

Will the new tile adhere to the old cultural marble top ?

Thanks,
Tim

Nobody has tried such a gruelling and fruitless task and therefore cannot
offer first-hand experience, but if you get the polished surface off, I
guess so.
