Shower door hinge replacement

The door on my polished aluminum framed shower enclosure contains a
continuous plastic hinge that runs the length of the door. The hinge
gets inserted into
the jamb and on the door it is inserted into the top and bottom rails.
There
is no hinge rail on the door itself, instead the hinge has a slot
which grips
the glass.

Anyway, the hinge is broken and I've been trying to find a
replacement. One
story I get is that the company that made the hinge is no longer in
business.
I've tried many glass and shower enclosure stores and no one can help
other
than builing a new shower door and hinge setup that will adapt to my
old door frame, which will cost around $500.

The original hinge supplier or shower installer (I haven't been able
to determine which) was Chapparal.

Does anyone have any suggestions where I can go next -- either
locating someone who may still supply these hinges or sell adapter
kits.

Thanks in advance

Shower door hinge replacement

Bluto,

I think there is a new shower door in your future! Stuff like this is very
transient.
About 6 years ago we had to replace the door because the old one broke...
hit the wall an shattered the glass. I picked a really nice one, hoping to
use it when
we got around to a total bathroom remodel. When we undertook this remodel a
few weeks ago we decided on a little bigger shower, requiring, one would
think,
merely an additional panel and the "new" door. Instead, we learned that the
"new"
door was destined for the land fill. All the glass people we talk to say
they only work with
"their line of hardware." Since these people come and go, and there are so
many
hardware vendors, there is zero hope of matching old hardware.

But, honestly, if you have the "piano" hinges, your door is pretty old and
probably deserving of the landfill.
That's was what our "old" door had, and it was installed in 1968.
