Default Prayer for the snow storm (add some text, and send it back throughthe list)

Dear God, please keep people healthy through
this storm. Guide them through snow covered
streets, keep their hearts beating as they
shovel and snow move. Bless the snow plow
drivers, that they may have all the hot food
and bathroom breaks they need. Guide their
machines so they move snow, and miss the parked
cars. And dear God.....

Over 70% of US population is overweight or obese. It would do them good to fast for a week or so.

Per Uncle Monster:
Dear Lord, thank God I live in The South. ^_^

When I was in basic training we had to sit through some chaplains'
explanation of why what we might wind up doing was consistent with our
supposed religious beliefs.

I was sitting next to a guy from somewhere down south - heavy accent -
and, when it came time for all of us to kneel down and offer our
personal prayers, I heard from next to me "God, send me beer and
pussy!"...

That has not changed. The way obesity is measured has changed.
Hmmmm. I wonder if it has anything to do with a Weight Watcher

Yah, Weight Watchers is in business to sell packaged meals so I don't doubt
there might be some evil there.

But FWIW, I was looking at an old (1970) high school class photo the other
day and noticed out of 100 kids only 3 were noticeably overweight.

Compare that to the typical class photo today and you'll see at least 50%
of the kids are overweight.

Didn't a really bad hurricane hit New York and New Jersey? The subways got flushed out, all the underground critters washed away and the alligators went home. When a hurricane comes through The Gulf of Mexico, here in the middle of Alabamastan with hills and mountains, we catch the edge of the weather system and not the full force of the hurricane but the resulting severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes are bad enough. Many people in Alabamastan have backup generators that run on natural gas which is widely available here. I must wonder if it's because the adoption and infrastructure for natural gas is so much newer than that for heating oil? It's like in developing nations where cellphones are more common because there is no copper wire communications network that's been in existence for so many years. o_O

The actual numbers haven't really changed. What has changed
it is the way it is define.

Yah, Weight Watchers is in business to sell packaged meals so I don't
doubt
there might be some evil there.

But FWIW, I was looking at an old (1970) high school class photo the
other
day and noticed out of 100 kids only 3 were noticeably overweight.

Compare that to the typical class photo today and you'll see at least 50%
of the kids are overweight.

The actual numbers haven't really changed. What has changed
it is the way it is define.

What year are reckoning from?

Obesity levels have increased significantly just since 1988-1994.

Got to go to work, but I will try to look up my source
tomorrow. The "increased significantly" is just a change
in the way it is measured. And no doubt Weight Watchers
being part of the new metrics had a lot to do with it.

Speaking of self interest, every time you diet you
put on more weight to compensate for the foolish artificial
famine you just put yourself through.

Hmmmmm. Don't suppose Weight Watchers knew this
when .... Nah. No conflict of interest there. No.
None at all.

Epigenetic changes caused by the artificial famine? '
Nah. Couldn't be.

Oh and lets all make fun of fat folks so they will diet
even more and make those that prey on them even richer.
Nah. Couldn't be ...

I was a "fat kid" in all the way though grade school, junior high, and
high school - so maybe I am more preoccupied with this than most.

Having said that...

I clearly remember when fat kids were a rarity. In my high school class
there was me and another kid and that was it.

When I went to my grandson's high school graduation, I should have done
an actual count, but it was obvious that obesity had become mainstream.

When I was a kid, morbidly-obese people were a rarity. Now I see them
everywhere. It's really obvious to me.

I have also seen one young woman firsthand go from a typical
good-looking girl in her late teens to morbidly-obese,
thighs-rubbing-when-she-walks in her mid twenties....

Saw it with my own eyes and have family photos to document the change.

Hi Pete,

Did you get a lot of pressure to join the football team?

I remember a study when I was a kid that said young people
were more afraid of getting fat than from nuclear war.

Here is when the standard changed (1998):
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9806/17/weight.guidelines/

If you have an hour or so of your life you don't know what
to do with or what back, the Fat Heads documentary goes
into it in depth:
http://www.fathead-movie.com/

What I noticed from when I was young to now is a huge increase
in fat bigotry. And the more you harass fat people, the
more they diet, and the bigger they get.

Also, birth control pills make women put on a lot of weight,
so you may be noticing that too. And not breast feeding
will do that too.

And tastes have changed since the advent of the television.
Skinny women were considered unhealthy and had to put up
with a lot of the same scorn that fat women have to put up
with now.

Me personally, I like my women to look like real women.
Women that look like teenage boys are not my thing.
But then again, I am STRONGLY heterosexual. But to
each his own.

And I try to never treat anyone badly for the way they look.
It very well may be Jesus come to test me. (I can
provide chapter and verse on that one, if you like.)
At businesses where I have a choice of dealing with a fat
or a skinny female rep, I always go for the fat one as I
know the kind of wickedness fat women have to put up with.
And you know what, you get treated a lot better too.

None. I was what they call "Skinny Fat".... 265#, but just a big bag
of bones with hundreds of pounds of lard hanging on it. The joke was
to push me down on the ground in the middle of the athletic field
because I was too weak to get back up on my feet unassisted. I had to
crawl on my hands and knees to a goalpost to get up.

Pre-puberty, my father took me to this "Fat Doctor" in NYC. He put me
on amphetamines and prescribed a supervised exercise program.

My dad didn't think much of the exercise supervisor, so we went with the
amphetamines....

I think the amphetamines delayed my physical maturity (I didn't mature
until my senior year in high school) and had a permanent effect on my
nervous system.... plus I gained any lost weight back, hence the "Skinny
Fat" bag-of-bones picture.

Twenty+ years ago, when we used to go to Germany to visit in-laws,
morbid obesity there was almost unknown. Plenty of thick, stocky
people that you might call "fat" but almost zero morbid obesity.

The exception was this one guy that the family knew. He weighted well
over 300# and was basically a social outcast because of it.

Now, in the photos I see from over there, obese people seem more common
and I would guess that guy is back in the mainstream of society.

I had the rare privilege of working with the same 300-odd people for
about 25 years. I have seen a lot of people lose weight, but cannot
think of anyone who did not eventually regain the lost weight plus
noticeably more.

I think the problem is that people think in terms of dieting to lose
weight and then, having lost the weight, getting back to
life-as-usual.... when the truth of the matter is that a lifestyle
change is required.

My own weight loss was the result of severe illness in my freshman year
of college when I lost over 100 pounds. The lifestyle change had
already begun when I started running (actually shambling/shuffling..) in
the summer after my senior year in high school. Once the illness
passed, I kept up the running and became something of an
exercise-obsessive.

And tastes have changed since the advent of the television.

I read an interesting article on the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Until relatively recently, their populace had zero exposure to outside
magazines, television, or electronic media.

They showed photos of women representative of the prevailing standards
of beauty before and after the incursion of outside media.

"Before" were sturdy, good-natured, practical-looking women.

"After" were the same ones we see: skinny, big boobs, bony shoulders,
looking like they weren't good for much of anything except the camera.

At businesses where I have a choice of dealing with a fat
or a skinny female rep, I always go for the fat one as I
know the kind of wickedness fat women have to put up with.

My #1 daughter had a good story last week.

She works part time as the bookkeeper for her township.

The township secretary (also not full-time) weighed about 400#, had
maybe 25# of her teeth, had bad breath that would peel paint; and was a
joy to work with. Ask her to have some papers ready, and they would be
*there*.... and she would do anything to help.

To cut to the chase, she was replaced by an decent-looking woman who was
lazy, uncooperative and basically a PITA to work with.

The high point of the #1 daughter's 2016 year was when that woman got
caught altering the health care data in order to get herself into a full
time employee's coverage - and got sacked because of it.

Hi Pete,

I start to count my own teeth. :-)

Don't worry, you have about 4000 typos to catch up with me.
It doesn't matter how much I proof read either. They
don't show up till I press send.

When I got diagnosed with T2 Diabetes, I got a rude awakening. I
thought I was doing all the right things, like healthy carbs
(there is no such thing) and all. Turns out what I was doing
was believing those special interests that had something to gain
by injuring me (T2 is an injury, not a disease).

When I pitches the drug (Metformin) and the side effects
subsided, I became Primal, limited my carbs to 15 per
meal and 60 total per day. And here is the clincher,
I regulated the "type" of carbs I consumed. I keep
my "Glycemic Load" down to a max of 10 per day. All
my cooking is "Home Cooking".

The "high load" carbs (grains, potatoes, apples oranges, bananas)
have all been hybridized for unnatural levels of carbs not
found in nature. And they are what injured me. They are also
highly addictive. And now that homemaking is mocked and
home cooking is a lost art form, we eat these repaired
artistically high carb, addictive food like substances.

And here is the kicker. You can't get fat from fat. To
get fat, you require 1) carbs to get artificially elevated
blood sugar and 2) the fat hormone, also know as insulin.
With the absolute garbage we consume, it is surprising we
are not all keeling over. Right now one in eleven of
us have been injured with T2.

I taught myself to cook, much to my wife delight. Primal
food is so very good I can not believe how well I
eat.

Drug free now for over two years. I am thriving, not
just surviving.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

That is pretty much Lustig's main point - except that he would add that
sugar is much, much, much worse than any other carb because our bodies
never adapted to metabolizing it without doing damage.

From a diabetic's standpoint, below the chin, carbs
are the same as sugar. Both do the same damage to
the human body
