Surveillance cameras operation questions
 

I have two small surveillance cameras that I would like to see if they work.
They have a special connector on the back, but I could find them. I even
have some coax that might work with the right Radio Shack connectors. Do I
just hook this up to a monitor, or do they require any electronic gadget
between the two? I know they can be set up to a recording device, and that
is their purpose. Is there anything much to these systems, or can the
picture just go straight to any monitor or recording device?

Hi,
No documentation with them? Model no. or who made it?
What kinda connector? coax kind? If you have a compatible monitor
(mono or color) you an connect to it but you can add adapter(s)
If you want to record or scan between two a PC and compatible or
universal software to go with them. many options, ideas.

BNC connector? you can get BNC to RCA coax adaptors and go directly
to a TV or VCR video input jack.

supply that feeds power to them via the coax cable output???

My basic question was "Are these things complicated, and would I be throwing
away money trying to make these work?" The connector is a push/twist thing.
The power supply is a screw terminal, and it has an ac/dc capability.

IF they do work, I'd just like to mount them, put a DVD recorder on them,
and a small cheap yard sale monitor. Was wondering if they have any big
components that link them together, but from what I see in the kits, they
are very simple.

I shall go to the shop today and bring them to the computer, and provide the
requested info.

Gotta get the computer running in the shop. 200' from the house.

It would appear you have analog security cameras, BNC connectors for video,
along with connector for power. This will connect directly to an analog
monitor (one with a BNC connection for video in). To record you will
require a Analog video recorder or an encoder that will convert your analog
signal to a digital video signal that could be recorded on a computer with
appropriate software.

Without specific information that is about the best I can do.

Analog VCR's used to be 25 dollars at the Salvation Army. Just a
year or two ago, I thought that was too high. But now in Baltimore
they are only 10. Hard to find one with a remote though. I
suppose they are tested, but I'd ask about returns, especialy since
you're going to buy the best one and exchanging it for a non-best one
might not be good.
