This is a system of storing wind generated electricity when the
demand for electricity is low (i.e., electricity generated by wind in
the night). The "surplus" electricity is used to produce hydrogen
gas, which is then fed into the nat-gas pipe grid, to be used
during the day etc..

Does H2 lower the energy content of the nat-gas?

On a volume-specific basis, yes (heat of combustion is roughly 1/3-1/4th
natural gas, depending on the precise composition of the NG mixture).
But, you're adding volume w/ the H so there's more total energy
available and as a side effect mixtures of H in NG can have beneficial
effects in lower NOx production and can allow for a leaner mixture.

Is natural gas mostly methane??
