Cost to replace part of wood deck ?
Hi,
One side of my deck blew completely off in high winds a few days ago. It was a privacy screen made of wood. One side of the deck is now entirely open. I may have a work man rebuild the screen, or just put in a normal deck railing. How much would they charge to just put in normal railings on one side of the deck? It needs all the vertical 2 by 4's , but he may be able to reuse the large planks on top and bottom, from the old wood that blew off. I am assuming the wood they need to attach the rail to is still good enough. It does not look or feel rotted, but it is 24 years old. The side is 8 feet long. and about 3 feet high. I think the type of wood is regular generic treated wood used for construction. Thanks |

Thanks The cost depends on: 1 - where you live 2 - the type of wood 3 - the extent of the damage 4 - the amount of time it will take 5 - the hourly/fixed rate of the repair-person 6 - how well you want the new to blend in with the old 7 - the code requirements for such an installation in your area I could go on and on. You can' t expect a decent estimate in a newsgroup. Yes, someone might say "the average handyman rate is $XX/hour, buidling a railing takes Y hours and a PT 2 x 4 costs $Z" but that's not really going to help. Do what is *always* suggested: Get at least 3 estimates, ask all the questions you need to and make a choice. If all 3 estimates offer different methods and you're still confused, get 3 more. Keep going until you are comfortable that you will get what you want at a price that seems to make sense based on comparable work. |
Cost to replace part of wood deck ?
DerbyDad, Thanks for the reply. I'll get some estimates. Might end
up doing it myself, depending on cost estimates. I can copy the existing design by looking at the other side of the deck. I would just have to get the TIME to do it, which is probably a common problem. |

I'll do it for $65.75 plus travel expenses. |
